30 Hour Famine is an international, hunger-fighting program, which began in the U.S. in 1992 and is sponsored by World Vision, the Christian relief and development organization helping children and families tackle the causes of poverty in nearly 100 countries. We, as a congregation, encourage youth to participate every year by raising money and fasting for 30 hours while learning more about hunger in the world and their communities and participate in hunger-related service projects around the Twin Cities.
This year, we encourage all people to join in the 30 Hour Famine effort with Bethlehem youth happening Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11. Here's what you can do:
- Saturday Hunger Service Projects. Serve alongside Junior High youth in hunger service projects with our mission partners! To find out more about where we will be serving contact Katy, as we like it to be a surprise for the kids. There will be service projects Saturday, February 11 in the morning (8:30am-12:30pm) and afternoon (1:00pm-4:30pm). You can participate in only one (morning or afternoon) or all day!
- Donate toilet paper, toothbrushes, detergent and other non-perishable food items. Bring to church by Friday, February 10.
- Play and learn more about hunger locally and globally. Spend time alongside Jr. High Youth, hearing how hunger affects people both here and abroad and what efforts are being made to help overcome hunger. There will be presenters as well as games. Stay for a few hours or for the night! The event starts on Friday, February 10 at 6:00pm.
- Donate to the 30 Hour Famine. If you can't attend any portion of the 30 hour famine, but would like to help, please donate! $30 feeds a child for a month. You can talk to a junior high youth about donating or contact Katy. Donations can be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church with 30 Hour Famine in the memo line.
