Blogs From India - #4

Yesterday morning, I was taken to the Trinity Cathedral, home of the Church of South India (CSI) Diocese of Tirunelvelli. This seminar organized by TAFTEE and hosted by Bishop Christoboss which meant that large numbers of pastors were present- nearly 100, and initially all in white albs (with the exception of the Bishop- his alb was pink...)

After greetings, introductions, a group photo and devotions, we (finally) got started. I was seated next to the Bishop for lunch, and got a refresher tutorial in Tamil food- served on a banana leaf, spicy (I like spicy) and all vegetarian! These folks (and those in the north, too) take their Lents seriously: no meat throughout the season,  and fasting on Friday! Still, hungry I have not been...

This morning I walked into the sanctuary, and those present leaped to their feet. I was touched by their respect, motioned them to sit and then noticed the Bishop five steps behind me... They were, of course,
standing for him. I smiled to myself and thought "God does keep you humble!"

We finished this afternoon- again, wonderful conversation, material well received, and those attending feeling like it was well worth their time.   My TAFTEE friends have departed, assuring me that my driver will arrive at 9 sharp to take me to the airport tomorrow morning... Then the long journey home begins. Keep me in your prayers as I travel; you are ever in mine!

See you in church for Palm Sunday!
