2 Year Old Refrigerator Notes

February 3, 2008

This Weeks Lesson:

God Frees the Israelites

Take Home Point

God saves us from enemies. Follow God.

Today we...

  • Watched a video of God freeing the Israelites from slavery in Egypt through the ten plagues.
  • Made and ate "Unleavened Cinnamon and Sugar Tortillas" as a reminder that the Israelites ate unleavened bread. We also are to be ready to follow God.

Talk About It

"God Sends a Flood" from an early reader Bible or read and summarize Genesis 6 and 7.

  • Why did God send a flood?
  • Why did God save Noah and his family?
  • How does God save us from danger?

Jesus Link:

God saved Noah through a wooden boat. Jesus saved us through a wooden cross

Memory Verse

"This is my Son, who I love." Mark1:11

Family Time Options:

Run through the sprinklers outside. Recall how God safely brought Noah throught he floodwaters. What problems has God safely brought your family through?

Take Home Point

Jesus calls people to be his helpers. I can love and care for others just like Jesus

Today we...

  • Heard the story of Jesus asking Peter and his friends to follow Him
  • Played "Follow me" Hokey Pokey
  • Made door hanger signs to remind us to follow Jesus.
  • Pretended to be fish
  • Played a parachute game and counted Jesus' helpers
  • Stamped footprints to show how Jesus' helpers followed Him

Talk About It

Today we learned about Jesus calling his special helpers. We learned what it means to be fishers of people!

Key Question

  • Who do we know that we can share Jesus with?

Something fun to try!

Jesus asked Peter and his friends to follow Him and share God's love with everyone!

Following someone means to do just the same as they do.

Play a game of follow the leader. Give everyone a chance to be the leader.

Did you like to be the leader or the follower? Was it sometimes hard to follow the leader?

What are some ways we can follow Jesus?

Memory Verse

"Follow Me, Jesus said." Mark 1:17

Fishing for People!

Who can you tell about Jesus?

Write each person's name on a piece of paper cut into a fish shape.

Add a paperclip to each fish and then make a fishing pole with a magnet at the end.

As you fish each person's name pray for them!

Take Home Point

God loves his son Jesus & God loves us too!

Today we...

  • Saw the story of Jesus' baptism in a Godly Play style
  • Pointed the "Jordan River" with frozen ice cube points
  • Blew white dove feathers down to remind us of the Spirit of God descending at Jesus' baptism
  • Jumped over the wiggly "Jordan River"
  • Pretended to baptize babies in our own water play center

Talk About It

Today we heard and saw the story of Jesus' baptism through a storytelling method called Godly Play. You could repeat this at home using "little" people and a strip of blue material or paper.

Key Question

  • How does God show his love for us?

Something fun to try!

This week during bathtime, review the story about Jesus' baptism. If you have a baby doll that can get wet, you can pretend to baptize the baby!

Do you have pictures of your child's baptismal day? Find the pictures to show your child. What about starting the tradition of celebrating their baptismal anniversary?

Memory Verse

"This is my Son, who I love."  Mark1:11
