Bethlehem is a place to nurture and grow the gift to care that dwells in all of us. The Befriender/Care Team Ministry offers an intentional way for individuals to extend the love of Christ through a ministry of listening, care-giving and practical support. A Befriender is a lay person, a listening and supportive friend through visits, phone calls, conversations at church, at work and in the neighborhood. Befriending relationships can vary in time from a brief ministry of one or two conversations to regular visits over several years. Befrienders initiate their own ministry when they see a need and also respond to formal requests from their pastor and Befriender Coordinator.Care Team Members are volunteers who provide services such as rides to appointments, church, grocery shopping and small errands. They may read, help write letters, share a meal, provide yard maintenance and snow removal, and light household chores. Services may be provided by individuals or in small groups. To participate in the Befriender/Care Team Ministries, please contact the Health Ministries office 612.312.3405. The next training will be held Wednesday evenings - January 9, 16, 23, 30 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. One needs to attend all four sessions to complete the training. Befrienders meet for ongoing education and support every 2-3 months.
