Our November sermon series centered on Abundance. But how can we be expected to think about abundance when the financial world seems to be crashing down around us, and the messages we hear increasingly point to scarcity rather than abundance?
In a world that continually emphasizes "what's next"- the next ‘experience', the next career move, and even the next text message - this season is a great time to stop. The Thanksgiving and Advent seasons encourage us to give thanks for the many blessings we have received, and to prepare ourselves for the coming of God's ultimate gift to us in Jesus Christ. It is in this reflection that we experience true abundance-God's gift of Jesus and His continued grace in our lives.
So, as we are tempted to worry about "what's next," let us take time to reflect and respond. One recent example was Council's review of our strategic outcomes -Worship, Grow, Reach, Serve, and Connect-in light of our congregation's mission to connect people with God, each other, and their mission in the world. It is up to each one of us to consider the abundant gifts each of us have received from God, and to determine how best to turn these talents and resources into action as we carry out this mission together.
