Visiting Our Neighbors

A six-session opportunity to explore the culture & worship of some of your neighbors.

Sundays, September 21 to October 26

@ 10:15 a.m.

Class Itinerary:

September 21 – Rodney Maeker, Director of Cross-cultural education, will talk about some of the basics of cross-cultural relationships and will facilitate a simple card game called Barnga that will help participants become aware of cross-cultural realities. Meet in Solberg @ 10:15am.

September 28 – Islam & Muslim Neighbors – Dr. Steve Haggmark, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies and Christian Mission and World Religions, will help participants in understanding more about our Muslim neighbors. Meet in Langemo Lounge @ 10:15am.

 

October 5 – Visit the worship service at Martin Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis and learn about the worship and life of Hmong immigrants. Meet at Bethlehem @ 9:00am outside Langemo Lounge in order to travel to the neighboring church.

 

October 12 – Worship with our Native American neighbors at All Nations Indian Church where you will learn about the ministry of Pastor Marlene Whiterabbit Helgemo, an ELCA pastor serving a United Church of Christ congregation in Phillips neighborhood.

Meet at Bethlehem @ 10:15am in Langemo Lounge so we can travel to All Nations for worship @11:00am.

 

October 19 – Meet Pastor Antonio Machado and learn about the culture and worship of Latino Peoples in the Carribbean, Central and South America. Meet in Langemo Lounge @ 10:15am.

 

October 26 – Wrap-up & debrief your neighbor visits with Kelly Larson, a Luther Seminary graduate who helped develop a Spanish-speaking congregation in East St. Paul. Meet in Langemo Lounge @ 10:15am.
