The holiday season is filled with expectations – heightened, lowered, or abandoned altogether. Our hopes are frazzled this time of year and so the prophets speak. Their voices rumble with the expectations and hopes of heaven. Their words gather us from isolation into new community, transaction into relationship, apathy into justice, and scarcity into abundance. In Advent, the prophets give us language for expectations beyond our best coping and compromises: love is coming. Expect the unexpected!
