ABOUT STEVE AMUNDSON: One of the premier ensembles at St. Olaf College, the St. Olaf Orchestra dates back to 1906. Since its tour of the Midwest in 1949, the ensemble has valued sharing its music with audiences beyond campus, both domestically and abroad.  The orchestra has toured in Scandinavia, Europe, China, and South America, and made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2019.  Steven Amundson took the reins of the ensemble in 1981 and has guided it to new heights of excellence during his forty-year tenure. His work as a conductor, educator, and composer has earned many accolades, including the Minnesota Orchestra Educator of the Year Award from the Minnesota Music Educators Association.  This year marks Amundson’s final year of conducting and teaching at St. Olaf.  He will retire in May 2022.
