Bethlehem Lutheran is hosting gatherings to help us reach across our political differences to move forward collectively. We hope you will join fellow congregants in With Malice Toward None gatherings developed by the nonprofit and nonpartisan Braver Angels.
The goal of these virtual forums is to work toward respectful interactions that facilitate teaching and learning in our community.
The first stage will bring together people who feel similarly about the results of the presidential election to reflect on how they will regard and treat their fellow citizens who voted differently.
FEBRUARY 2, 7:00-8:30 PM: For those who feel pleased with the result of the presidential election - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
FEBRUARY 4, 7:00- 8:30 PM: For those who feel displeased with the result of the presidential election - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
The second stage will provide an opportunity to meet and interact with those who voted differently to better understand each other, find common ground, and in the words of Braver Angels, “begin building the capacity of We the People to forge ‘a more perfect Union’ in 2021.”
These forums are not meant to obscure strong political differences or encourage people to change their positions. Instead, they are based on a commitment to respect the humanity of those who differ from us and to try to forge connections for civic work across differences.
For now, we invite you to register for the initial gathering with people who feel similarly about the presidential election. We acknowledge that some people remain uncertain regarding the outcome of the election. In that case, please participate in the group with whom you most align regarding the election.
After the first forum with like-minded people, you can decide whether to sign up for a second gathering with those who feel differently about the election.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in and contribute to this critical work.
