Vigil for Peace

August 27 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Our hearts are broken by the news from Annunciation Catholic School earlier today. During the school Mass, two children were tragically killed, and seventeen others were wounded, most of them children. The shooter also took his own life. What should have been a moment of prayer and blessing was shattered by violence.

In moments like this, words falter. Yet we cling to the promises of God, who draws near to the brokenhearted.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

This evening, we will gather for a prayer vigil to lament, to hold space for grief, and to surround our neighbors in love. Together, we will cry out to God, seek peace, and stand in solidarity with all who are hurting.

Please join us tonight at 6:30 pm in the Minneapolis Campus sanctuary for a time of prayer. Livestream the service here.

Bring your prayers, your tears, your presence. In the shadow of this tragedy, we will turn toward the light of Christ, who promises that death and violence will never have the last word.

God of mercy, hold close the families whose lives have been torn apart this day. Shelter those who are wounded in body and spirit. Surround this community with your peace that passes understanding. Strengthen us to be bearers of compassion, courage, and hope, even in the face of grief. In Christ, our refuge and strength, we pray. Amen.

P.S. There will also be a community vigil at Lynnhurst Park this evening from 8:00 to 9:00 pm, hosted by Protect MN and Moms Demand Action-MN. The Bethlehem service will end by 7:30, allowing people to attend both if they wish.
