“Ghost of a Chance”

August 13 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

When reporter Eric Roper moved into his 113 year old home in Minneapolis in 2020, he began an unexpected journey to understand the history of his home, focusing on the owners of the home a century ago.

Harry and Clementine Robinson were notable as one of the few black families to own a home in what is now one of the whitest parts of Minneapolis. Their story, one of racial segregation and the significant challenges faced by Black families in achieving property ownership, is told by Star Tribune Reporter Eric Roper and Producer Melissa Townsend in the six-part podcast, “Ghost of a Chance.” As it happens, this story took place just a few blocks from Bethlehem’s Minneapolis campus at the time the church was under construction.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, 7:00pm, in Minneapolis, Eric and Melissa will present the remarkable story of Harry and Clementine and their courage in the face of segregation, housing inequality, and systemic racism, along with the story of their research and investigation in creating this historical podcast.

The evening is hosted by a cohort from the “Exploring Alternatives to Division” classes led by Nancy Maeker. The group is committed to learning and acknowledging our historical context and seeking to understand how that history impacts our lives and the lives of others today.

Invite a friend, register on Realm, and listen to the podcast ahead of time if you can!
