Theology on Thursdays

June 18 @ 9:30 am 10:30 am

Our summer schedule is changing!

While members of this group might continue to meet for fellowship each Thursday throughout the summer, we are gathering in an official capacity four times. We usually meet in the Library, but if the weather is nice, you might find us at the picnic tables on the East Lawn. Join us!

June 18 and July 16:

How the Bible Came to Be by John Barton is a pretty quick read, but it might take you down a few rabbit holes of research or send you searching for other books like “The Making of Biblical Womanhood” or “The Bible Says So”. I’m suggesting this one because we had some pretty lively discussions about the Council of Nicea and how many really important decisions were made when the church was institutionalized back in the 300s AD. Let’s explore what might have happened when the Word went from spoken to written and wild to bound.

July 30 and August 20:

Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor is the tale of an Episcopal priest who leaves parish ministry to teach world religion at a small Baptist college. She’s learning right alongside her students and inviting them into an expansive vision of God, theology and delight for their neighbors. We get to audit her class!
