Navigating the World of Social Media: A How-to Guide for Parents and Youth
Navigating the World of Social Media: A How-to Guide for Parents and Youth

September 30 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
It’s all over the news and in public discourse – social media use can have a negative impact on the mental well-being of children and youth. Bullying, addictive scrolling, unwanted solicitations, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), etc., take their toll – and sometimes lives.
Through conversations and information-sharing, instead of focusing on those known negatives, this interactive program will explore how parents and kids can best navigate the world of social media.
- Enhance your understanding about the developing brain in adolescence.
- Explore the potential benefits and potential harms of social media, especially for adolescents.
- Discuss strategies for navigating social media in ways that are safe and beneficial
- Take home practical strategies for parents and kids to have conversations about social media
and make decisions together.
Presenters: Kathryn R. Cullen, M.D. Professor and Division Director; Child and Adolescent Mental Health Drs. Irving and Dorothy Bernstein Professorship in Psychiatry Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Minnesota Medical School, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB), Minneapolis
